Windchild

Published as in interior illustration in Different Worlds magazine in 1983. The original is an oil painting on illustration board, 17x22 inches. (Mouse over the image to see a detail of her face.)

This was my first published color piece, predating even the cards for the Dragonriders of Pern game. It was supposed to be the cover of the magazine, and I even wrote an article about a race of winged humanoids to go with it, so it could be. But, for some reason, the editors decided to put it on the interior instead, as the first interior color illustration in the magazine.

It's a pretty straightforward piece, with no hidden things (that I'm aware of.) But I've always liked it. I was living in Okinawa when I painted it, and snapped the image of the clouds in my backyard there.

• The image area of this print is roughly 8x10 inches. It comes matted on a piece of foam-core board, open edition, signed by the artist. $25 + $5 shipping and handling.
