5. Where can I find a teacher?

In a very real sense, Everywhere. All of Nature is our teacher. Pay attention to Her, and the lessons She is constantly giving you. You are also a teacher. Look within; often you will find the answer to your questions there. And the Lady is also everywhere, and will teach you if you slow down enough, and listen for her.

There are also tons of good books, and discussion groups all over the net (look in the Links section for some of my favorite ones.) Just remember to compare all the things you may hear to your own instincts, knowledge and experience. Don't blindly follow anyone. (Not even me. Especially not me!) Remember, they are on their path, but you are on your own. It's not likely to be exactly like theirs; so keep your mind and instincts with you at all times. If something seems wrong to you, it probably is wrong for you.

But you don't want to hear any of this; you want to know how to contact a flesh-and-blood person who will tell you what you should be doing. I know. I've been there. I was tired of trying to figure it out, and wanted someone to just tell me!

At the risk of sounding trite, your teacher will arrive exactly when she should.

When I first began, I had no teacher. I had my ex-husband, but he wouldn't tell me anything except "look deep within, and you will find the answers." It turned out to be excellent advice. See, the things you know deep within are not only the things that are most germane to your own path, they are often things that we need. And if you never have to look deep within and find them, they will remain buried there.

So it can be the wrong thing for someone to "just tell you."

If I give you all my answers, you will never find your own. Worse than that, none of us will ever get to hear the knowledge that you have deep within you.

So look for a teacher if you want, but don't despair if you don't find one right away. It just means that you still need to uncover valuable stuff, or become a stronger person in yourself, or some other thing that is necessary for you.

Where to look? On the bulletin boards at your local occult/new age bookstore. In your local paper. On the web (a good place to start is The Witches' Voice, where you can find a regional listing of groups in your area.) At your local science fiction conventions. Or just pray to the Lady, and let her know you really want one, and wait for one to show up. Or all of the above.

But when you find one, don't give your will to her. If she tells you to do something you think is wrong for you, don't do it. Vote with your feet. (Run away.) Keep listening to that inner voice, and keep your mind and instincts with you. And good luck!
