Dragon Storm is a fantasy role playing game that uses cards instead of rulebooks.

To begin play, you chose a character card. There is a number in the upper right hand corner of this card; that is the number of points you have to begin with. You use them to buy a background, skills, spells, and attributes. Different backgrounds give you different strengths and abilities. For instance, if you chose Night Fighter as a background, you will automatically be able to see in the dark, without having to pay for the Night Vision card. If you choose Runaway Apprentice, you will be able to buy Wizard spells. Other backgrounds that don't give you any exposure to spell learning also don't give you any chance to buy these spells.

You play the game by reacting to situations your Game Master relates to you. For instance, she may say, "You see two figures approaching you in the road. One looks like a scruffy human male. He has uncombed red hair, three days growth of beard, and is dressed in rags. He is shuffling along, with his head tucked into his shoulder. The other looks like a young Elf lord. He has a regal bearing, and is richly dressed. He's walking about a pace in front of the other fellow. He looks directly at you, and raises his nose and one eyebrow. The other guy looks at you from the corner of his eye, and shakes his head slightly. What do you do?"

At that point, you can choose to do anything you can think of: wait and talk to them, attack them on the spot, pretend you have a stone in your shoe ...anything. The GM will then tell you what the non-player characters do in response, and so on.

She may also ask you to make a contest role at any time, to determine the outcome of an action you have declared. At that point, you roll two six-sided dice. Which makes it easy.

As your character lives through situations, you gain points (given to you by the GM) to reflect the knowledge you have gained through experience. You can trade these for card points at a ratio of 20:1. Twenty game points for one card point.

So your campaign continues, and your skills and abilities increase until you can make a real difference in the world, and help to save it from the Evil Necromancers (but that is background.)

Sounds like fun! I'll look at Robin's stuff later. Right now, send me to the Dragon Storm Home Page.
